2007 is past and we look to a new year. During the past year I was plagued with a few medical problems but those out weigh the joys we have encountered like seeing Kimberly graduate high school and then getting engaged to Adam. Finding out our middle daughter Kaylee and husband Bradney are expecting their first child. Krista and Kyle also finding out a couple of weeks later that they are expecting their 2nd child, and finally Sarabeth's birth mother signing the adoption papers. Although we are going to be real busy we are looking forward to 2008.

Tonight on the way home from work I stopped by the cemetery to see the new headstone that we purchased for dad and mom's grave. As I stood there thinking about dad and Christmas time I remember how dad didn't like Christmas too much, I'm not saying he didn't like the real meaning of Christmas, however he didn't like the commercial side of it, the buying of presents, trees, and decorations, but he would always enjoy when we all got together as a family on Christmas. Dad I really miss you and wish you were here.

I know it seems crazy but I'm so glad I get to go back to work tomorrow after being off for a week and a half for emergency eye surgery. Woo-hoo. The doctor says that I'm 20/30 in my right eye and before the surgery I was 20/25 so I have a little way to go.

I Can See Again !!!!

After a week or so of impaired vison I can see again. On Friday evening while riding with my wife to Columbus I was able to distinguish makes and models of vehicles and license plates. I was so excited because the prognosis from the doctor really had me scared, he was saying he couldn't guarantee when or if I would regain my sight back. Thanks to my wife Rhonda who took care of me by making sure I had everything I needed and taking me to the frequent doctor appointments, and to the many individuals and churches that interceded in prayer for me, however the one who deserves all the credit is Jesus Christ, he was with me through it all. Once again this shows the faithfulness of God and with Him all things are possible. I see the doctor again tomorrow and I pray he will release me to go back to work.

Hi there....this is Tom's wife, Rhonda. Just wanted to let you all know that Tom had emergency surgery Wednesday evening for a detached and torn retina. Now, most of you won't know this but Tom only has one good eye. He is legally blind in the other. Unfortunately, this happened to his good eye. The surgeons are hoping for a full recovery but cannot assure us of anything at this time. They are telling us that it could be up to a year before he regains his sight in that eye. At this time he has very limited vision and what he is able to see is extremely blurry. Please pray for him that he will make a full recovery. He is already having a tough time as all he is able to do is sit or lay.

When you’re fighting an angry mob of 200-feet tall piece of loose leaf paper According to the Associated Press, a man tried to rob an ice cream store with a stapler.
The man entered the store, produced a chrome stapler and demanded money from the teller. A chrome stapler? Is Harley Davidson getting into the office supply business?
The teller gave the man the money and he fled the store before witnesses of the crime led police to the man’s house. Police recovered the money, a mask and the stapler. They also confiscated a .45 caliber label maker, a double barreled hole puncher and a sawed-off sticky note dispenser.
A police spokesman said he wasn’t sure how the man was going to use the stapler as a weapon. Investigators believe the man threatened the clerk to either open the cash register or ruin the book he was going to read on his lunch break by stapling the pages together.

How the Turkey Got Its Name

There are a number of explanations for the origin of the name of Thanksgiving's favorite dinner guest. Some believe Christopher Columbus thought that the land he discovered was connected to India, and believed the bird he discovered (the turkey) was a type of peacock. He therefore called it 'tuka,' which is 'peacock' in Tamil, an Indian language.

Though the turkey is actually a type of pheasant, one can't blame the explorer for trying.

The Native American name for turkey is 'firkee'; some say this is how turkeys got their name. Simple facts, however, sometimes produce the best answers—when a turkey is scared, it makes a "turk, turk, turk" noise.

Turkey Facts

At one time, the turkey and the bald eagle were each considered as the national symbol of America. Benjamin Franklin was one of those who argued passionately on behalf of the turkey. Franklin felt the turkey, although "vain and silly", was a better choice than the bald eagle, whom he felt was "a coward".

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, more than 45 million turkeys are cooked and eaten in the U.S. at Thanksgiving—that's one sixth of all turkeys sold in the U.S. each year. American per capita consumption of turkeys has soared from 8.3 pounds in 1975 to 18.5 pounds last year.

Last year, 2.7 billion pounds of turkey was processed in the United States.
In 1995, retail sales of turkey reached approximately $4.4 billion. They are expected to reach $4.7 billion in 2000.
Age is a determining factor in taste. Old, large males are preferable to young toms (males) as tom meat is stringy. The opposite is true for females: old hens are tougher birds.

A turkey under sixteen weeks of age is called a fryer, while a young roaster is five to seven months old.

Turkeys are the only breed of poultry native to the Western Hemisphere.

Turkeys have great hearing, but no external ears. They can also see in color, and have excellent visual acuity and a wide field of vision (about 270 degrees), which makes sneaking up on them difficult. However, turkeys have a poor sense of smell (what's cooking?), but an excellent sense of taste.

Domesticated turkeys cannot fly. Wild turkeys, however, can fly for short distances at speeds up to 55 miles per hour. They can also reach speeds of 25 miles per hour on the ground.

Turkeys sometimes spend the night in trees.

Turkeys can have heart attacks: turkeys in fields near the Air Force test areas over which the sound barrier was broken were known to drop dead from the shock of passing jets.

The ballroom dance known as the Turkey Trot was named for the short, jerky steps a turkey makes.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - Lloyd Carr alternately choked up and chuckled for nearly 40 minutes Monday as he announced his 13th season as Michigan football coach will be his last.

"I wanted to be able to walk out of here knowing that to the very last minute, I did my job to the best of my ability," Carr said with watery eyes. "And I know I'll be able to do that."
The best of Carr's ability brought Michigan a national title and five Big Ten championships. It also included an unsightly loss to Appalachian State to open this season and a fourth consecutive defeat and sixth in seven years to Jim Tressel and Ohio State to close it.

Many of those memories were very close to the surface at Monday's news conference during which the public that rarely got to see his true personality also learned what had happened behind closed doors the previous day when Carr broke the news to his players and staff.

"I cried more tears than I knew I had," said Carr, who spent 28 seasons on the Michigan coaching staff. "And I've never laughed so hard in my life because there were so many memories."

Carr will coach the Wolverines in their bowl game, likely to be either the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio or the Outback Bowl in Tampa, Fla. Following the bowl game he will become an associate athletic director.

A man who robbed the Family Dollar at 39th Street and Indiana Avenue tonight made his — short-lived — getaway on a city bus.

After hitting the store shortly after 7 p.m., the robber headed across the street and boarded the bus, a dispatcher said. The suspect made it about five blocks before Kansas City police stopped the bus and took the suspect into custody near 40th Street and Cleveland Avenue.

The man was reportedly armed, but no one was hurt in the incident.

McALLEN, Texas - A man was arrested for drug possession after telling authorities that two masked gunmen had stolen 150 pounds of marijuana from his home.

Hidalgo County sheriff's deputies arrived at the home near Penitas in South Texas to find the door kicked in and nearly 15 pounds of pot lying on the floor, Sheriff Lupe Trevino said.

Jose Guadalupe Flores, 35, escaped while the men ransacked the house but returned later and told the deputies he had been wrapping the drugs for shipment when the intruders arrived.

"The guy walked right up and said the drugs were his," Trevino said. "That's not the smartest move."

Flores, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, was charged with felony possession of marijuana at an arraignment hearing Monday. Because of his immigration status, Flores will be jailed until his case is heard.

Authorities were still searching for the gunmen.

It was 1987! At a lecture the other day they were playing an old news video of Lt.Col. Oliver North testifying at the Iran-Contra hearings during the Reagan Administration.
There was Ollie in front of God and country getting the third degree, but what he said was stunning!

He was being drilled by a senator; "Did you not recently spend close to $60,000 for a home security system?"

Ollie replied, "Yes, I did, Sir."

The senator continued, trying to get a laugh out of the audience, "Isn't that just a little excessive?"

"No, sir," continued Ollie.

"No? And why not?" the senator asked.

"Because the lives of my family and I were threatened, sir."

"Threatened? By whom?" the senator questioned.

"By a terrorist, sir" Ollie answered.

"Terrorist? What terrorist could possibly scare you that much?"

"His name is Osama bin Laden, sir" Ollie replied.

At this point the senator tried to repeat the name, but couldn't pronounce it, which most people back then probably couldn't.

A couple of people laughed at the attempt. Then the senator continued. Why are you so afraid of this man?" the senator asked.

"Because, sir, he is the most evil person alive that I know of" Ollie answered.

"And what do you recommend we do about him?" asked the senator.
"Well, sir, if it was up to me, I would recommend that an assassin team be formed to eliminate him and his men from the face of the earth."
The senator disagreed with this approach, and that was all that was shown of the clip.(By the way, that senator was Al Gore !!!)

Terrorist pilot Mohammad Atta blew up a bus in Israel in 1986. The Israelis captured, tried and imprisoned him. As part of the Oslo agreement with the Palestinians in 1993, Israel had to agree to release so-called "political prisoners."

However, the Israelis would not release any with blood on their hands, The American President at the time, Bill Clinton, and his Secretary of State, Warren Christopher, "insisted" that all prisoners be released.

Thus Mohammad Atta was freed and eventually thanked the US by flying an airplane into Tower One of the World Trade Center. This was reported by many of the American TV
networks at the time that the terrorists were first identified.
It was censored in the US from all later reports.

Yesterday our youngest daughter Kimberly graduated from high school. The weather was threatening so they moved the ceremony inside, however it was very nice. After the ceremony we had an open house and had approximately 200-250 people come to celebrate Kimmy's special day. Kimmy decided last year to participate in the post secondary program offered by the state, since Kimmy had all of her hs credits at the end of her junior year she was able to forgo her senior year and attend Ohio Christian University as a freshman. This fall she will return to Ohio Christian University as a sophomore majoring in Business.

I know it's a few days past memorial day but as I sat on the patio that afternoon right before the family arrived for an evening cook out I was thinking about all the memories of my childhood. About the times dad, my brothers, and I would leave right after school on Tuesdays to go fishing at my uncle's pond, we would fish until dusk and we would be so hungry by the time we were ready to leave. My dad would always tease us all the way home about how good dinner was going to be, Or the memorial days we would go on a picnic at hoover reservoir , and the cook outs at our house. It's kinda weird how these things pop in my mind, it must be because I'm getting older. I just hope that when I'm gone from this earth my kids remember the special times that we spend together.

When the Loretto Chapel was completed in 1898, there was no way to access the choir loft twenty-two feet above. Carpenters were called in to address the problem but they all concluded access to the loft would have to be via ladder as a staircase would interfere with the interior space of the small Chapel.
Legend says that to find a solution to the seating problem, the Sisters of the Chapel made a novena to St. Joseph, the patron saint of carpenters. On the ninth and final day of prayer, a man appeared at the Chapel with a donkey and a toolbox looking for work. Months later the elegant circular staircase was completed, and the carpenter disappeared without pay or thanks. After searching for the man (an ad even ran in the local newspaper) and finding no trace of him, some concluded that he was St. Joseph himself, who came in answer to the sisters' prayers.
The stairway's carpenter, whoever he was, built a magnificent structure. The design was innovative for the time and some of the design considerations still perplex experts today.
The staircase has two 360 degree turns and has no visible means of support. Also, it is said that the staircase was built without nails—only wooden pegs. Questions also surround the number of stair risers compared to the height of the choir loft and about the types of wood and other materials used in the stairway's construction.
Over the years many have flocked to the Loretto Chapel to see the Miraculous Staircase. The staircase has been the subject of many articles, TV specials, and movies including "Unsolved Mysteries" and the television movie titled "The Staircase."

Went to the doctor today he is very pleased with my progress. He explained in detail all the work he had to do, he even had pictures it was unbelievable. He told me that I still can't put weight on it for 5 more weeks. He did say I was able to sing this weekend.

Painful Thursday

I think I over did it yesterday. By the end of the evening my knee was very sore, I took some pain meds and went to sleep and stayed in bed all day today. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow, I hope I will be able to convince him to let me go with the fam this week end and sing. We have services scheduled Sat and Sun.

My Wife

Since I have been laid up for the past week my wife has been so great. From checking to make sure I get my medicine to preparing meals for me, she even took off work for 2 weeks to take care of me. I don't know what I would do without her caring and unselfish attitude. Although we have been together 27 years Im proud that she still feels the way she does. I love you babe and I appreciate all that you are doing, thanks from the bottom of my heart.

Tomorrow will be 1 week since surgery and things seem to be going well. My knee is not as sore as I thought it would be, I haven't taken pain medicine since 10:00 pm last night. One of the guy's that work for me came and visited with me for a while today we talked about all that was going on at work, I guess the place won't fall apart with me being gone after all. My mother also stopped by to check on me after her Dr's appointment we had a nice visit. I hope I don't go crazy but I have 5 more weeks of this, STAY TUNED !!!!

Well I made it home today after having surgery yesterday, what an experience that was. I guess it wasn't as bad as what I thought it was going to be, actually when they started the morphine I felt pretty good. It's good to be home, however I won't be able to do much for about 6 weeks. I hope I don't go crazy.

My Little Girl

The last 2 weeks have been a roller coaster of emotions. A week ago last Friday our youngest daughter's boyfriend came outside while I was grilling steaks and I knew he wanted something. I could tell that he was real nervous and had something on his mind. After a few minutes of awkward conversation he blurted out the question---you know that question that you dread hearing. I have heard this question 2 other times but this time it was different. As the boy was talking all I could think about was little Merzy sitting at the dining room table saying "sugar me daddy" which was our special song when she was only 2 or 3. My how time flies by. Yesterday, he made it official and proposed! Although he is a great guy and I couldn't have hand-picked a better mate for Kimmy it is still hard knowing that our youngest has grown into a beautiful young lady and is about to leave the nest. So Adam, take care of my little girl, welcome to the family, we love you! As you start your new life together keep God first. Always remember Merzy -- Daddy loves you!!!

What is the meaning of Easter?

While the focus was once on Easter Sunday, now it is on the Easter Bunny. But Easter Sunday is much more than a day of colorful plastic eggs and chocolate bunnies; it is in fact a day that left the world forever changed.

It had been three days since Jesus had received the death penalty by popular vote. His friends and followers were devastated, as they had come to believe that He was not just an ordinary man, but the Son of God. He had performed miracles, healed every disease, and even brought a man back from the dead.

On that third day—the day we now celebrate as Easter Sunday—His friends went to His grave, but instead of finding His body, they found an open tomb with no body in it. In fact, what they saw was an angel who told them, “Don’t be afraid! I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He has been raised from the dead, just as He said it would happen” (Matthew 28:5, 6).

Jesus rose from the dead on Easter Sunday; now He offers to you the gift of eternal life and forgiveness of sins. This is the true story of Easter, and this salvation is for you. Here are 4 principles that tell how you can receive the gift of God for your life.

1. God Loves You!

The Bible says, "God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life"

The problem is that

2. All of us have done, said or thought things that are wrong. This is called sin, and our sins have separated us from God.

The Bible says “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” God is perfect and holy, and our sins separate us from God forever. The Bible says “The wages of sin is death.”

The good news is that, about 2,000 years ago,

3. God sent His only Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins.

Jesus is the Son of God. He lived a sinless life and then died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. “God demonstrates His own love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.”

Jesus rose from the dead and now He lives in heaven with God His Father. He offers us the gift of eternal life -- of living forever with Him in heaven if we accept Him as our Lord and Savior. Jesus said "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except by Me."

God reaches out in love to you and wants you to be His child. "As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe on His name." You can choose to ask Jesus Christ to forgive your sins and come in to your life as your Lord and Savior.

4. If you want to accept Christ, you can ask Him to be your Savior and Lord by praying a prayer like this:

"Lord Jesus, I believe you are the Son of God. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. Please forgive my sins and give me the gift of eternal life. I ask you in to my life and heart to be my Lord and Savior. I want to serve you always."

The Fasting & Prayer Conference includes meals. The sermon this morning: "Jesus Walks on the Water." The sermon tonight: "Searching for Jesus."
The peacemaking meeting scheduled for today has been canceled due to a conflict.
Next Thursday there will be tryouts for the choir. They need all the help they can get.
At the evening service tonight, the sermon topic will be "What Is Hell?" Come early and listen to our choir practice.

I came into work this morning about 6:30 and booted up my laptop and from the very start the day went down hill. I was on the phone for almost 2 hours with the IT department trying to figure out what my stupid laptop was doing. I almost flung it out the window however my window doesn't open. After the laptop fiasco I was unable to get my office phone to stop forwarding all of my calls to my cell phone so I called IT again and spent another hour getting that taken care of. I just love electronics. SOMEONE HELP !!!!!!!!!!
